TYPICAL HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINES An engine’s function is to convert energy (electricity) into motion. An engine is made up of a stator (fixed part) and a rotor (mobile part). The creation of opposite magnetic fields between the stator and the rotor brings the latter to rotate. Two carbon brushes fixed on the engine structure supply the rotor with electric current. Contact between the carbon brushes and the rotor is made through the collector. The dimensions and the quality of the material of the carbon brushes are key factors that determine among others, the dryers’ performance and longevity. DC engine The distinctive feature of a DC engine is that the stator’s magnetic field is generated by a permanent magnet. The rotor alone has a winding that makes its own electromagnetic fields. These fields get the rotor to rotate. 22
